Strathclyde Windscreens & Industry Standards

One of the things that distinguishes Strathclyde Windscreens from other autoglazing companies is that our fitters are NVQ trained to a national standard and kept up to date with changes in the autoglass industry.

So what exactly does all that entail?

Do our technicians just take a morning off and sit in a room watching a boring video about cracked and chipped windscreens while trying not to nod off, before leaving with a certificate of attendance?

Nope. It’s a lot more than that.

National Vocational Qualifications are always job based and assessed in the workplace against a national and industry standard. So if someone has an NVQ you can be assured that it will relate to a very specific skill for a very specific job. There is certainly theory involved and our fitters need to understand some of the science involved in repairing and replacing glass, as well as safety issues, in order to offer the very best service to our customers.

The first level of qualification our fitters achieve is NVQ level 2 and that typically takes around 2 years of work. Our staff undertake a form of apprenticeship and on job training with our other more experienced staff, and as they progress they have modules to work through with their NVQ instructor, as well working to compile an extensive portfolio of their work and skills. An area of particular importance for us is the focus on Health & Safety. Health & Safety gets a bad wrap, associated with too much paperwork and mindless rule following, but because we offer mobile fitting, and our guys are out with you on a road or a drive somewhere, they have to be aware of safety issues. Glass can be dangerous. Not to mention that your windscreens are also part of the structural integrity of your car and a major safety feature. Our customers safety will always be high on our list of priorities, it’s one of the things that sets us apart from the competition!
